The Holy Ghost is connected always with Jesus. Even in the O.T. when David spoke by the Holy Ghost, it was concerning Jesus. Prophecy. For the Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Jesus.
Humans have ‘soul’. God is a Spirit. See, ‘soul’ pertains to humans. Jesus is a human; therefore when he died, it said the same thing as of the O.T. people dying — he gave up the ghost.
Now, I am sure you will question this being two different spirits, so here is Scriptural proof:

Romans 8: 9. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
- And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
- But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Now, read that and really look at it. Count.
- Spirit of God. If Christ be in you.
Spirit of Him (Father) which raised up Jesus — dwell in you.
- Spirit of Christ.

John 17: 20. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
- That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
- And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
- I in them and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

John 14: 10. Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
- Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
(See that the Father was dwelling in Jesus?)

- Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
- I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
(See, here Jesus said the Father shall be in you – and I will come to you. This is one of the main Scriptures which mixed up the Jesus only people)(it is what mixed me up for years, causing me to believe that doctrine)

- Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Now, see here, WE AND OUR are plural. It is showing same thing as in Romans 8 — that BOTH the spirit of the Father and the Ghost of Jesus is inside us.
The Holy Spirit of the Father. The Holy Ghost of Jesus, His Son.
So this proves the O.T. People did NOT have the Holy Ghost. Jesus is the one who baptizes us with his spirit, the Holy Ghost.
See, God the Father gave Jesus all the same power and authority that He himself has — As the Father quickens whom He will, even so Jesus quickens whom He will.
As the Father can send His Spirit onto and into a person, so can Jesus send His spirit (Holy Ghost) into and onto a person. All things that the Father does, Jesus also does.
